On October 11, 2024, representatives from businesses, energy experts and relevant authorities gathered in Zagreb, Croatia, to discuss the new obligations arising from the transposition of Article 11 of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED 2023). The workshop objective was to inform companies about the upcoming obligations regarding energy audits, energy efficiency action plans, reporting obligations, and the introduction of energy management systems, especially for energy-intensive enterprises. Additionally, the guidelines for obtaining and maintaining the right to a reduced RES surcharge were highlighted, with a focus on the implementation of energy audit recommendations and proposed energy efficiency measures.
The workshop facilitated constructive discussions on the challenges of implementing energy efficiency measures. Moreover, participants expressed interest in further collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure the effective fulfilment of legal obligations and achievement of energy efficiency targets.
The session titled “Energy Efficiency Obligations of Companies in the Republic of Croatia” was organized by the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) and the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP), as part of the LEAPto11 and ENSMOV Plus projects. The Ministry of Economy as the National Authority for Energy Efficiency and the Croatian Energy Market Regulator (HROTE) also participated as presenters.
At the conclusion of the workshop, companies were invited to participate in the LEAPto11 project as pilot cases for the implementation of an integrated methodology for energy audits in enterprises. An initiative was also announced to host gatherings at the premises of the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP), bringing together companies, experts, and other stakeholders as preparatory activities for potential establishment of the Croatian Energy Efficiency Network.
